Founder · Teacher Wu Mei-yun

A calling expressed through music and movement.

Teacher Wu Mei-yun was born in Huatan, Changhua, Taiwan, and began her career as an elementary school teacher. At age 29, after being baptized at Taipei Gongguan Presbyterian Church, she left her secure teaching position to study religious music at Taiwan Theological College and Seminary.

After graduation, she served in music ministry in the Presbyterian Church until she married and moved to the United States.

After her husband retired, Teacher Wu and her spouse returned to Taiwan. She devoted ten years to children’s music education, composing many songs and teaching materials that were used by kindergartens.

At the height of that work, a kindergarten director encouraged her to use her theological education in service to God. In response to that calling, Teacher Wu and her husband returned to seminary in the United States and began twelve years of pastoral missionary work.

After retiring from ministry and returning to Taiwan, Teacher Wu exercised every morning at nearby Rongxing Garden. She prayed for an exercise group rooted in Christian faith. Using scripture, she wrote hymns and designed movements—creating Praise Dance as a way to exercise and worship God at the same time.
